The standard
Twenty Years From Now
A wedding photograph has a longer life than almost anything else you will commission. It goes on a wall, into a frame on a desk, and eventually into your children’s hands.
Our standard is simple: in twenty years, you should not be able to date the clothes in these photographs. Not from the lapel width, not from the trouser break, not from a proportion that belonged to one particular season.
Good tailoring has never depended on novelty. The proportions change less than people think. That is what we are after when we draft a pattern for you.

Black tie
Black Tie Weddings
Formal black-tie weddings (and white-tie weddings) exude a classic and sophisticated charm. To complement such an elegant occasion, create the ideal tuxedo, morning coat, or tailcoat. You can opt for the conventional black or midnight blue colors, or take inspiration from James Bond and go for an ivory dinner jacket. We have hundreds of options to choose from, including some of the most luxurious fabrics. Customization options include peaked lapels or shawl collars, and much more.
New to Black Tie?
If the invitation says black tie, it means a tuxedo. If it says black tie optional, a dark suit is acceptable: black is preferable, then dark navy or dark gray. The best answer is still a tuxedo.
We make them for a living, so weigh our advice accordingly, but when you are given the option, dress up. Go to a wedding on your own and a tuxedo attracts the right kind of attention. Go with your partner or your spouse and they will look at you in a way they simply will not when you are in a suit. Men look good in suits. Everyone around you still notices the man who dressed up, and they will tell him so.
These are the choices that shape the jacket. Nobody expects you to arrive knowing the vocabulary, and we walk through every one with you.

Peak lapel
The lapel points up toward the shoulder. The classic black tie lapel, and the more commanding line.

Shawl lapel
One continuous curve with no notch and no point. Softer, with a dinner jacket feel.

One button, jetted pockets
A dinner jacket closes with a single button. The pockets are jetted: a clean slit with no flap, so nothing interrupts the front.

Side vents
A vent at each side of the back. The jacket moves with you when you sit or reach for a pocket.

No vent
A closed back. The most traditional choice for black tie, and the cleanest line when you are standing.
Peak or shawl, both are correct. It comes down to taste. The shaded area on each lapel is the silk facing. The drawings are guides: lapel width, button stance and pocket position are all set to you. More on satin, grosgrain and pricing on our Black Tie page.
Semi-formal
Semi-Formal Weddings
Semi-formal weddings sit between cocktail and black tie, the dress code that lets you put a real suit forward without reaching for a tuxedo. Go for a charcoal or midnight-navy suit, paired with a crisp white dress shirt, a silk tie, and dark leather shoes. Patterned suits (pinstripe, glen check, or a soft windowpane) are welcome at evening ceremonies. The right fit and a thoughtful tie carry the entire look.

Warm weather
Beach Weddings
When it comes to beach weddings, it's important to select breathable fabrics and summer-appropriate hues. Opt for cotton or linen suits, or go for luxurious, lightweight silk blends to create the perfect beach wedding attire.
Think light blue, gray, or a tan suit coat with white trousers. A good fit is key, as baggy attire looks sloppy when it comes to a beach wedding.

With a bespoke outfit, you can appear relaxed and comfortable while still looking your absolute best.

On Duty
Eight men can look perfectly good alone. Put them in a photograph together and the eye finds the one jacket buttoned wrong.
So for a small number of weddings each year, we come to you. We are there while the party dresses, through the first look, and in the hallway before the doors open, straightening the last man in line.
We are on duty until you say I do.
