Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a custom suit cost?
Our custom suits start at $895 in the Iniziare collection, our entry point, with baseline half-canvas construction. Most clients land between $1,295 and $1,995.
We don't make any fused garment. Our floor is a half-canvas garment, nothing fused.
Final pricing depends on your fabric selection and your choice of construction. We'll guide you toward the perfect fit for your build and your budget.
Construction grade upgrades
- Half canvas: baseline, included at $895
- Full canvas: +$200
- Fully handmade: +$350. Hand-padded lapels, with the collar attached by hand and the buttonholes, seams, chest pocket and lining hand sewn.
- Presidential: +$500 to $750. Our highest grade, made by hand throughout, with the most handwork in the lapels.
How much does a custom tuxedo cost?
Our custom tuxedos start at $1,095 with our baseline half-canvas construction. The bump from our suit floor reflects what makes a tuxedo a tuxedo: satin lapels, satin-covered buttons, and a satin side stripe down the trouser, real silk satin, not a printed substitute. From there, the same construction-grade upgrades apply: full canvas adds $200, fully handmade adds $350, and our top-tier presidential construction adds $500 to $750. Whether for a wedding, gala, or black-tie occasion, we'll guide you toward the right tuxedo for the moment.
How much does a custom shirt cost?
Our custom shirts start at $215, and tuxedo shirts at $275. Most clients stay right at that price, because we carry a wide range of beautiful shirtings there. The only thing that moves the price is the cloth, unless you choose our handmade make. Collar, cuff, buttons and monogram are always included. A first shirt order carries a four-shirt minimum, which we waive when you are also ordering a suit.
How long does it take to receive my custom suit?
Our garments are typically ready within seven weeks from the time your order is placed. We’ll contact you as soon as they arrive at our Tysons Corner showroom to schedule your first fitting.
Does it really take seven weeks for my garment to be ready? Why?
Each garment is crafted from scratch based on your exact measurements and preferences. From cutting the fabric to hand-finishing details, the process is thoughtful and precise. Our cloth comes from mills around the world and the tailoring is done in Hong Kong, which adds to the timeline, but ensures a result that’s worth the wait.
That said, if you’re working on a deadline, let us know. We’ll do our best to accommodate.
When should I place my wedding order?
We recommend placing your order twelve weeks before the date. Your garments take about seven weeks to make, and the rest covers your fitting, any adjustments, and room to spare. The sooner you start, the more options you have.
Getting close to twelve weeks, or already past it? Don’t rule us out. Get in touch with your date and we’ll tell you honestly what we can do.

Why should I choose custom over off-the-rack clothing?
Custom clothing is made for you, not the rack. We take 49 unique measurements, considering your build, posture, and personal preferences to create garments that fit precisely and comfortably.
You’ll also have complete control over the design, from fabrics and linings to lapels, buttons, threads, and monograms. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece that reflects your individual style and fits better than anything off the shelf.
Where do your fabrics come from?
We work with some of the world’s most renowned fabric mills, including those based in Italy, England, and Japan. Whether you’re looking for a year-round wool, a summer linen, or something truly distinctive, we’ll guide you through a curated selection of fine cloths for every occasion and climate.
Can I reorder a previous garment?
Yes. We keep your measurements and style preferences on file, so reordering is easy whether you want the exact same suit or would like to refresh the look with a new fabric or finish. Many of our clients build out a full wardrobe this way over time.
Do you offer virtual consultations?
At this time, The Tailored Man does not offer virtual consultations. That’s by design.
We believe the best way to achieve an exceptional fit and personalized experience is through in-person visits. Each appointment gives us the opportunity to understand your unique build, style preferences, and goals, and allows you to see, feel, and select from our full range of fabrics and customization options.
If you're a returning client, we can often streamline future visits using your saved measurements and past order history. But for first-time fittings and design consultations, we look forward to welcoming you in person to our showroom so we can ensure the highest standard of craftsmanship and care.
How should I care for my custom garments?
A well-made garment lasts for years if you treat it right. Here is what we tell every client at handover.
- Give it a few wears. The canvas and cloth settle into your shape over the first several wears. Judge the fit after that, then come see us.
- Rest it. Give a suit a day off between wears and rotate. Two pairs of trousers per jacket doubles the life of the suit.
- Take the jacket off to drive. Seatbelts, messenger bags and shoulder straps crush the chest and shoulder. Hang it in the back seat.
- Empty your pockets. Phones and keys pull a jacket out of shape faster than anything else.
- Hang it properly. Use a wide, shaped wooden hanger that matches your shoulders. Wire hangers belong at the dry cleaner.
- Brush, don’t clean. A horsehair brush after wear lifts dust and grit. Most suits need dry cleaning once or twice a year, no more. Every cleaning strips oil from the wool.
- Choose a cleaner who cleans on site. If you walk in and hear the machines running, the owner has direct control over your garment and can honor a special request. Shops that send everything out to a large third-party plant generally have less control over the process, and that is more often where buttons get broken or cloth gets singed.
- Steam, don’t press. A steamer refreshes the cloth without flattening the lapel roll we built into it.
- Let it breathe. Never store a suit in the plastic from the cleaner. Use a breathable bag for the off season, and give your closet some room.
- Shirts. Take the collar stays out before laundering. Skip heavy starch, which wears out collars and cuffs early. A good cleaner won’t break your buttons. A bad one will.
- Spills. Blot, don’t rub, and use cold water. If it’s on a suit, bring it to us before you try anything ambitious.
