Custom clothiers are strangely shy about prices. We are not. Here is exactly what custom clothing costs at The Tailored Man in Tysons Corner, what moves the number, and how it compares to the alternatives – so you can decide before you ever book a fitting.

The Short Answer

Custom suits start at $895 in the Iniziare collection with half-canvas construction. Premium fabrics start around $1,295, and most of our clients land between $1,295 and $1,995. Custom tuxedos start at $1,095. Every garment is cut to your measurements, fitted in person, and your pattern stays on file.

What Moves the Price

Cloth is the biggest variable. Iniziare anchors the $895 entry point; cloth from Loro Piana, Holland & Sherry, Ermenegildo Zegna, Scabal, Dormeuil, and Stylbiella carries the price with it – finer yarns, better drape, and a hand you can feel across the room.

Construction is the second. Half-canvas is our floor – we never build a fused suit at any price. From there: full canvas +$200, fully handmade +$350, and our Presidential tier +$500–$750 for the most involved handwork we do.

Against the Alternatives

A designer suit off the rack in a DC department store runs $1,000–$2,500 before the $100–$300 of alterations it needs to approximate your body – and it was still cut for someone else. Online made-to-measure runs $400–$900 with no in-person fitting and, typically, fused or partially fused construction. A tuxedo rental is $200–$300 for a single weekend, returned. Our bespoke vs. custom vs. made-to-measure guide and tuxedo-rental alternatives guide unpack the trade-offs honestly, including when we are not the right answer.

The Investment Math

A $1,500 suit worn 60 times over five years costs $25 a wearing – and because the pattern is on file, the second suit fits from the first cut. Most clients build a rotation over time: a working wardrobe first, then formalwear, then the seasonal pieces.
