Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a first appointment take?

Depends on the type. A Free Consultation runs about 30 minutes. We discuss your needs, walk through fabric and construction options, and answer questions. No measurements are taken at this appointment. A New Client Order is 60 minutes: measurements, fabric and design selection, and the order is placed. A Returning Client appointment is 30 to 45 minutes for new orders when measurements are already on file.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. Appointments allow us to give each client proper attention. Please choose the appointment type that fits where you are in the process. Measurements are not taken at a Free Consultation; they’re taken at the New Client Order appointment when you’re ready to commission a garment.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring any inspiration photos, event details, dress code requirements, or garments you currently like or dislike. If you are shopping for a wedding, gala, business wardrobe, or special event, bring the event date and any relevant color guidance.

How far in advance should I book before a wedding or event?

For weddings, galas, and major events, we recommend starting as early as possible. Most custom garments require several weeks from measurement to final fitting, and additional time may be needed for refinements. Standard custom suit lead time is seven weeks.

Can I book for a wedding party?

Yes. The Tailored Man works with grooms, groomsmen, fathers of the bride or groom, and wedding parties across Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland, and with clients nationwide.
